Dr. Pierre R. CLERO Stem Cell Treatment Center follows the regenerative medicine procedures developed by the Internationale Board of Regenerative Medicine and Bio-cosmetic Surgery which involve the initial screening, examination and evaluation of every potential candidate for stem cell investigational therapy. The stem cell procedure used by the CLERO STEM CELL CENTER CSCC uses Adult Autologous Adipose-derived Stem Cells (ADSC's) to provide care for patients suffering from chronic conditions that may benefit from adult stem cell-based regenerative medicine.
The CSCC follows the regenerative medicine procedures developed by Internationale Board of Regenerative Medicine and Bio-Cosmetic Surgeru which involves the initial screening, examination and evaluation of every potential candidate for stem cell investigational therapy by one of our physicians. Once a patient is deemed to be an appropriate candidate, the procedure itself is performed by our Surgeon-in-Chief, who is assisted by a team of experienced surgical team members and surgical technicians. The entire process from start to finish takes less than two hours. It is relatively painless, and recovery time is minimal. We do not use bone marrow for a source of stem cells. Taking bone marrow, is a painful procedure; and, there are not as many stem cells in bone marrow as compared to stem cells in adipose tissue. Furthermore, bone marrow stem cells drastically decrease with age - adipose stem cells do not. Fat, contains many times more stem cells than bone marrow and is much easier and safer to harvest.
For many disease types, such as in cardiac pathology, adipose derived cells appear to be showing superiority to bone marrow derived cells. This may be related to the well documented fact that chronic disease causes bone marrow suppression. Fat derived cells are a natural choice for our investigational work considering their easy and rapid availability in extremely high numbers.
With our current technology, we can easily harvest the stem cells from your own fat cells; we use Adult Autologous Adipose-derived Stem Cells (ADSC's). The most significant advantage of using your fat as a source for the stem cells, is that the procedure can be done in the office in less than two hours. Your stem cells do NOT need to be sent out for processing - and - there is no need for you to travel to have stem cell therapy.
Indeed, adipose tissue is an abundant source of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), which have shown promise in the field of regenerative medicine. Furthermore, these cells can be readily harvested in large numbers with low donor-site morbidity. During the past decade, numerous studies have provided preclinical data on the safety and efficacy of adipose-derived stem cells, supporting the use of these cells in various clinical applications. Numerous clinical trials have shown the regenerative capability of adipose-derived stem cells in various fields of medicine. In addition, a great deal of knowledge concerning the harvesting, characterization, and deployment of adipose-derived stem cells has been reported.
The Adult Autologous Adipose-derived Stem Cells (ADSC's) are obtained from the patient's own fat, which is harvested during a mini-liposuction. The CLERO STEM CELL CENTER offers IRB-approved protocols and investigational use of ADSC's for clinical research and deployment.
These ADSC's cells are derived from fat - an exceptionally abundant source of stem cells - that has been removed during our mini-liposuction office procedure. The source of the regenerative stem cells actually comes from stromal vascular fraction (SVF) - a protein rich segment from processed adipose tissue. Stromal vascular fraction contains a mononuclear cell line (predominantly autologous mesenchymal stem cells), macrophage cells, endothelial cells, red blood cells, and important growth factors that facilitate the stem cell process and promote their activity. Our technology allows us to isolate high numbers of viable cells that we can deploy during the same surgical setting.
The SVF is harvested, concentrated, then deployed back into the patient's body via injection or intravenous infusion on an outpatient basis (often times both methods are used). The total procedure takes less than 2 hours. Not all medical disorders respond to stem cell therapy, and each patient must be assessed individually to determine the potential for optimal results from regenerative medicine processes such as stem cell harvesting and deployment. The mini-liposuction is performed in our sterile treatment facility under local anesthesia - typically using a lidocaine based solution. Our procedure uses specially designed equipment which is used to remove several ounces of fat, usually from the abdominal area or flank area. This part of our procedure lasts approximately 15-20 minutes. The amount of fat removed is small and is unlikely to significantly change the area cosmetically. You are awake and resting comfortably during the procedure, generally speaking with the Surgeon during the entire time.
After harvesting the Adipose Tissue (fat), the next step is to isolate the Adult Stem Cells by separating them from the fat cells. Our procedure, which involves a specialized and world-tested sterile "closed system" technology (so cells never come into contact with the outside environment), yields extremely high numbers of viable stem cells. This is a critically important step.
It is important to note: That ONLY autologous adult adipose stem cells are used - that is - there is NO mixing of one patient's stem cells with another patient's stem cells. The process is ENTIRELY "Autologous" - ONLY the same patient's Adipose tissue (fat) is used to obtain the Adult Stem Cells - and ONLY those Adult Stem Cells obtained from the patient are given back to the SAME patient. There is NO mixing of Stem Cells from patient to patient - AND - there is thus NO risk of contamination or spread of disease.

The Adult Autologous Adipose-derived Stem Cells are then "deployed" or "returned back" into the SAME patient's body using minimally invasive methods.
Depending on the condition, cells may be infused into veins or injected subcutaneously or directly into joints or other areas.
In the right environment, these stem cells can differentiate, or change, into bone, cartilage, muscle, fat, collagen, nerves, blood vessels, and other tissue types.
Because these are the patient's own cells, there is no risk of infection or rejection.
